LEVEL 2 EXTREME HEAT EMERGENCY

Armstrong, BC— The City of Armstrong is notifying residents of the LEVEL 2 EXTREME HEAT EMERGENCY

The City has opened its Emergency Operation Centre and is working with the Ministry of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness and several Community Partners in response to the Extreme Heat emergency. It was determined that a Cooling Centre was to be opened to provide a place for residents to cool off.

The Okanagan Regional Library – Armstrong Branch at #1 – 3305 Smith Drive, Armstrong, BC, is open and has extended operating hours to 10:00 PM, from Monday July 8th through Wednesday July 10th.

The City encourages residents and visitors to take advantage of places to cool off and hydrate within the community. Visit local places like coffee shops and stores, as well as:

Residents are encouraged to:

  • Spread the word. Use the buddy system. Check in with friends, neighbours, and family who might require assistance during heat events. NCCEH Guide to Health Checks
  • If you have any health questions or concerns, please go directly to an urgent care provider, or call the Provincial Health Line at 8-1-1 for free-of-charge health information and advice.
  • Be prepared to change your routine. If outdoor tasks are required, consider performing them before 11am or after 5pm.
  • Be aware of how to stay healthy in the heat.
  • Be aware of the signs of heat related illness and what to do.
