Armstrong’s roots trace back to 1892 with the arrival of the Shuswap and Okanagan Railway, made possible by William Charles Heaton-Armstrong, for whom the city is named. What began as a lone boxcar amidst willows and swamp quickly grew as citizens of nearby Lansdowne relocated to the railway, bringing their homes and belongings. Armstrong was officially incorporated as a City Municipality on March 26, 1913.
The city preserves its rich history through a Heritage Resource Inventory, cataloging over 70 properties of historic interest. These buildings, reflecting unique architecture and craftsmanship, tell the story of Armstrong’s growth and enduring legacy.
Whether you enjoy a quiet day amongst the trees, or an exciting day with family, Armstrong has a variety of outdoor activities to explore within a 10-minute walk of one another.
